Street Fashion and Blogging

We stumbled across this video recently, which we thought was a really interesting look at the ever-growing world of street style blogs - and the street style 'stars' which inhabit it.

The short documentary, titled 'Take My Picture', is a look at the phenomenon of street style and its depiction online - and its increasingly complicated relationship with 'high' fashion, the media and itself. To quote the filmmakers:

When we set out to make this short, our intention simply was to observe the phenomenon of fashion bloggers and street style stars. As we started to review the footage, two salient trends became apparent: fashion editors frustrated by the ensuing commotion outside of shows, and the rise of "peacocking" street style stars as a result of the proliferation of blogs. This film examines these themes from both perspectives.

It's the point about 'peacocking' which we find of greatest interest here - has the street style movement become so big and marketable and commoditisible and 'famous' that it has lost any connection with the sort of grass-roots fashion movements that website such as The Sartorialist used to pride themselves on discovering?
