The 3d Printed Fashion of Iris van Herpen
3d printing is EVERYWHERE at the moment - but we were surprised to see it cropping up on the catwalk recently in this collection by designer-to-the-stars Iris van Herpen.
Van Herpen, whose dresses have been worn by Lady Gaga amongst others, "stands for a reciprocity between craftsmanship and innovation in technique and materials. She creates a modern view on Haute Couture that combines fine handwork techniques with futuristic digital technology .Van Herpen forces fashion to the extreme contradiction between beauty and regeneration. It is her unique way to reevaluate reality and to express and underline individuality".
The collection, produced in collaboration with Materialise, combines 3d printed elements with more traditional fabrics to stunning effect - creating an otherworldly combination of the technical and the aesthetic, with a strong biotechnological slant. We love them - although we're not sure that we get invited to enough of the sort of events where we'd be able to wear these rather special creations...
